Our Revolution’s Beyond Fossil Fuel Town Hall with Barbara Lee, Ro Khanna, and Climate Activists

From an Our Revolution mass email advertising the "Beyond Fossil Fuel Town Hall with Barbara Lee, Ro Khanna, and climate activists" held on October 17, 2023. Other attendees included Joseph Geevarghese, Executive Director, Our Revolution, Fatima Iqbal-Zubair, Nalleli Cobo, Ashley Hernandez, Francisco Gonzalez, Lena Gonzalez, and Sylvia Arredondo:

"Tonight, Tuesday, Oct. 17th, 2023 leading climate champions U.S. Reps. Barbara Lee and Ro Khanna will join Our Revolution’s LIVE Virtual Town Hall to organize for a world beyond fossil fuels, prevent backyard drilling in California, and fight for environmental justice for all.
We’ll also hear from Californians whose lives have been directly affected by fossil fuels, and activists working to fend off Big Oil’s attempt to overturn SB1137, which the state legislature passed to ensure all oil and gas drilling is set back at least 3,200 feet from homes, schools, hospitals, nursing homes and more.

[...]

The clock is ticking on the climate crisis. Each of the past three years has been the hottest year on record, and fossil fuel production is having horrible impacts on people’s health in real time today.
We need to move beyond fossil fuels before we lose everything. Every day, we witness the terrible evidence of our government’s failure to mount a resistance to fossil fuel corporations. Changing this will take all of us...."

Infiltrating the Dems

Help DSA-LA Take Over ADEMS!

Every two years, California Democrats elect delegates from across the state, who then convene along with appointed party officials at the party’s Assembly District Election Meeting (ADEMS). ADEMS determines what the party stands for, making this a significant opportunity for socialists to push the California Democratic Party to the left and away from the interests of union busters, the landlord lobby, fossil fuel polluters, the corporate hospital and pharmaceutical lobby, the prison industrial complex, the corporate donor class, and others that stand against our values.

Our members are running for ADEMS delegate seats so that we’re in the room when the Democratic Party sets its agenda and makes decisions on endorsing candidates for public office. We’re fighting for issues that matter to the working class in California, like Medicare for All, Green New Deal, and Defunding the Police.

The DSA members listed below (in alphabetical order by first name) are running for ADEMS delegate seats on slates across LA County and have pledged to fight for our democratically-decided socialist values.

Assembly District 64 - Brandon Molina Berrios, Carson Malbrough, Dinorah Hernandez, Eric DiMaggio, Fatima Iqbal-Zubair, Hernaldo (Ernie) Gutierrez, Joseph Luis Pinon, Karyssa Harris, Micah Silver, Tiffanie Noelle Smith.

Organizing, Solidarity, and Electoral Politics post-November 3rd: Where Does Our Muslim Generation Fit In?

Event by DSA Muslims, DSA AfroSocialist and Socialists of Color Caucus and UC Berkeley Muslim Student Association (Cal MSA) Online with Facebook Live Thursday, October 29, 2020.

In the past few months, our Muslim generation has grappled with a crippling pandemic, an ongoing struggle for racial justice, economic fallout not seen since the Great Depression, and a politics unwilling to serve the needs of working-class Muslims all around the country.

During the discussion, we would first talk about the current moment we are facing, with crises in all directions and hope seemingly out of reach. The discussion would then pivot to our generation, the “youth,” who has the most at stake and is watching as our futures are thrown away!

Towards the end of the moderated discussion, we would discuss organizing Muslims and communities at the grassroots level, running for office, the forces of power and corruption standing in opposition, and the tangible ways for Muslim students to engage in organizing and electoral politics without sacrificing their values!

This will be followed by a Q&A period with submitted questions and live audience participation! The moderators will be Samy Amkieh and Sana Siddiq.

Our invited guests for this conversation will be Ismahan Abdullahi, Aya Saed, Fatima Iqbal-Zubair, and Olivia Katbi Smith.

Submitted by Erin O’Neal-Robinson.

Let’s get an DSA-LA member into the State Assembly!
Our endorsement can not only help build socialist power in state government but also help grow our numbers in the South Bay area
Fatima is a strong candidate with democratic socialist politics. This race will be tough but it’s winnable. She is excited about our chapter’s efforts to organize in the South Bay and by endorsing her, we can engage more current and potential members. Members in our Westside Branch have also expressed support of this campaign so I think as a chapter, we have the bandwidth to take this on. We need someone like Fatima in Sacramento.[3]
