Standing for AD 37

In 2019 AJ Valenzuela stood from AD 37 for the California Democratic Party Central Committee.

AJ Valenzuela has been an active member of the Democratic Party since he first interned for the California Democratic Party in 2012 to support Julia Brownley’s election to Congress. AJ continued his activism in both Santa Barbara and Ventura Counties as he attended UC Santa Barbara and participated in the local Democratic Party. After completing his education at UCSB, AJ accepted a position as a representative for Assemblymember Das Williams where he covered the issues of higher education, environmental, and other policy areas. AJ left working for the CA State Assembly to pursue a career as a longshoreman at the Port of Hueneme where he aspires to be an ILWU member one day. AJ has served as past President of the Greater Oxnard Organization of Democrats where they opened the first Democratic Club office in Ventura County to fight the Oxnard Recall Election. AJ also serves on the CAUSE Action Fund Board and the Central Coast League of Conservation Voters where he advocates for progressive candidates in local elections. AJ currently sits as a Co-Chair for the California Democratic Party’s Organizational and Development Committee where he convenes the Central Committee sub-committee. One of his projects includes working on a matrix of best practices for Central Committees. In his free time, AJ also enjoys mentoring young activists to get involved in the Democratic party to empower young people of color and increase diversity.[1]

Calling all my VC and Santa Barbara people! If you live in Ojai, Oxnard, Santa Paula, Ventura, Santa Barbara, or Carpenteria, and you are a registered Democrat, please turn out tomorrow to vote for Arthur Valenzuela, James Forsythe, Karina Kaye, and the other members of the district's progressive slate in tomorrow's ADEM elections! When Bernie Sanders talked about making the Democratic Party the party of the people, this is what he meant. Don't stay home, be part of the change you want to see!
