Communist propagandist

Outside the known leadership of the Communist Party USA, the five top pro-Soviet propagandists in US were all Protestant clergymen. Their names and positions are as follows: the Rev. Harry F. Ward, Professor Emeritus of Union Theological Seminary; the Rev. Kenneth Ripley Forbes, Executive Secretary of the Episcopal League for Social Action; the Rev. Jack R. McMichael, Executive Secretary of the Methodist Federation for Social Action; the Rev. Willard Uphaus, Co-Director of the American Peace Crusade; and the Rev. Joseph Fletcher, Professor of Christian Social Ethics, Episcopal Theological School, Cambridge, Mass.

The Rev. Joseph Fletcher and the Rev. Willard Uphaus were elected to membership on the World Peace Council at the Second World Peace Congress, held in Communist-controlled Poland, November 13-19, 1950. This gathering had been scheduled to meet in Sheffield, England; but, at the last minute, the British Government refused to allow the foreign delegates to land in England. The gathering was, thereupon, transferred to Warsaw. [1]

National Committee to Abolish the House Un-American Activities Committee

As of May 1964, Willard Uphaus, Director, World Fellowship Incorporated Conway, N. H., was listed as a sponsor of the Communist Party USA front, National Committee to Abolish the House Un-American Activities Committee.

Herbert Aptheker Testimonial Dinner

On April 28, 1966 Willard Uphaus was a sponsor of the Herbert Aptheker Testimonial Dinner. The dinner was held on the occasion of Herbert Aptheker's 50th birthday, the publication of his 20th book, and the 2nd anniversary of the American Institute for Marxist Studies. It was held in the Sutton Ballroom, The New York Hilton, Avenue of the Americas, 53rd to 54th Street, New York City. Most speakers, organizers and sponsors were known members or supporters of the Communist Party USA.[2]

American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born

In the late 1960s Willard Uphaus was listed as a Co-Chairman of American Committee for Protection of Foreign Born[3].

Helsinki-Youth Festival

July 29-August 6, 1962 the World Youth Festival was held in Helsinki, under the auspices of the Soviet front World Federation of Democratic Youth.

Willard Uphaus, supporter of Communist fronts and Carlton Goodlett and Victor Rabinowitz, identified members of the Communist Party USA raised funds for the festival in a letter in the April 2, 1962 issue of the National Guardian.

Communist-aligned attendees were Charles Berrard, Michael Myerson, Harold Supriano and Michele Hall, daughter of communist Hawaiian labor leader Jack Hall, and future wife of Assemblyman, State Senator, Congressman and California Democratic Party Chairman John Burton (D-CA).

Professor Howard Zinn, an identified member of Communist Party USA active in ocmmunist fronts, American Peace Mobilization and New York CP dominated American Veterans Committee, helped recruit attendees to Helsinki confab.[4]

We Will Make Peace Prevail!

On March 28, 1982 the New World Review organized a gala luncheon "We Will Make Peace Prevail! Disarmament Over Confrontation, Life Over Death", at the Grand Ballroom, Hotel Roosevelt, New York City. Virtually all participants were identified as Communist Party USA.

Willard Uphaus was listed on the Committee of Sponsors.[5]
