Rose Pak Democratic Club
Template:TOCnestleft Rose Pak Democratic Club is a San Francisco based organization dedicatedto building on the legacy of the late Rose Pak.
Beginnings
September 20, 2016, one day after the death of Chinatown political juggernaut Rose Pak, a new political club is being proposed to honor her legacy and continue her work.
Two of Pak’s mentees have submitted an application with the Democratic County Central Committee to establish the Rose Pak Democratic Club.
The group’s goals include several of Pak’s top priorities: rebuilding the Ping Yuen public housing complex in Chinatown, ensuring the completion of Chinese Hospital, preserving and expanding housing for low- and middle-income families, and reconnecting Chinatown to major thoroughfares.
That last goal is not uncontroversial: Pak was opposed to Union Square merchants’ efforts to turn lower Stockton Street into a pedestrian walkway on the grounds that it would hurt access to Chinatown.
“Rose was our inspiration, our mentor; and she was there at our very first organizing meeting to make this progressive club a reality. Our mission is to carry on the public service to the community, to ensure that the voiceless are heard,” Jen Low and Wendell Lin, co-presidents of the proposed group, said in a statement.
Low is an aide to Supervisor Norman Yee, and Lin is a law student who previously worked for Mayor Ed Lee.
Low and Lin also urged the city to name the Central Subway Muni Metro station in Chinatown after Pak, noting that “she fought long and hard to make the subway extension a reality.”[1]

Rose Pak Democratic Club Endorses Jane Kim for Mayor.
SAN FRANCISCO – The Rose Pak Democratic Club announced their sole endorsement of Jane Kim for the Mayor’s race.
“Now, more than ever, we need a champion who will fight for the city’s most vulnerable residents and we have full confidence that Jane Kim will deliver on a vision for a more inclusive, vibrant, and equitable San Francisco. The future of our city is at stake. Jane understands we must clean up our streets, make our neighborhoods safer, and provide opportunities for all our residents to thrive. Like Rose Pak, Jane is tenacious and driven by her love for community. As Supervisor, she has demonstrated the ability to lead effectively and bring forward real solutions with her success in securing more affordable housing units and making City College free for all San Francisco residents. Jane is authentic, principled, and results-driven--she is who we need as our next Mayor,” stated Jen Low, President of the Rose Pak Democratic Club
“I am proud to receive the sole endorsement for San Francisco Mayor from the Rose Pak Democratic Club. As mayor, I will continue to support the causes Rose Pak championed—preserving the cultural institutions of Chinatown, ensuring our immigrant families can stay in their homes, and uplifting the voice of the Chinese community in San Francisco. Rose Pak was my mentor, and I will honor her legacy by fighting for the people she dedicated her life to protect,” stated Jane Kim.
The Rose Pak Democratic Club joined Kim for a press announcement on Rose Pak’s Way, a street named after the beloved community advocate.
“Our Club’s endorsement is reflective of the values that Rose Pak carried. Rose believed in empowering young women and was a strong supporter of Jane Kim. We believe Rose would have been proud to see Jane continuing her lifelong dedication to serve the public, especially to advance the lives of the children, families, and seniors struggling to stay in San Francisco.” stated Rosa Chen, Vice President of the Rose Pak Democratic Club.
In honor of its namesake, the Rose Pak Democratic Club works to elevate the voices of Asian Pacific Islander (API) residents in San Francisco. Through a commitment to public service, the organization engages residents to be more informed, involved, and active in the political process and to provide a forum to discuss issues that impact the API community.
