Maribel Nunez Facebook Post on Our Revolution dated January 21, 2021:[2]

Excited about 8PM tonight! Thankful to the believers who rise above political tensions to bridge the gaps—all for the love of #SinglePayer. It's time for California to lead the way.
We have a truly wonderful movement of people dedicated to healthcare justice. We are stronger together. Fighting the good fight, joining us tonight:

Christy Gilbert Holstege Connection

On August 23, 2020, Maribel Nunez endorsed Christy Gilbert Holstege via Facebook:[3]

"Christy introduced the 'Police Review' to the city council, police budgeting review and the resolution to declare racism a public health crisis. Councilmember Holstege reached out to us, Bayanihan Desert, leaders who are now forming Coachella DSA, Desert Highland, Coachella Valley Immigrant Dignity Coalition, LGTBQ rights activists and other community members to work together with us to move these issues.

Christy Gilbert Holstege responded in the comments:

"Thank you so much Maribel Nunez. Your endorsement and support means so much since you are truly out there doing the work and seeing how each Councilmember and councils operate and decide the issues that are most important to our communities. Proud to work in partnership with you."

I just donated to Christy Gilbert Holstege to continue the work of transforming Palm Springs residents not just for the rich but for people living in poverty...
Why I support the re-election of Christy Holstege?
As a Latina, and woman, racial/economic justice organizer we need her re-elected. She has been endorsed by Engage Coachella Valley and its partners Sierra Club, Bayanihan Desert, IBEW 440, IELC, APALA-Inland Empire Chapter, Planned Parenthood Action Fund of the Pacific Southwest.
There is a perception, especially from people that are outside of the City of Palm Springs, that all [[Palm Springs City Council are progressive. That’s what I thought prior to 2019 but that is not necessarily the case. Just in 2020, the passing of an ordinance extending the eviction moratorium, one that went beyond what Gov Newsom was proposing, added more public health protections in the midst of COVID 19, including CARES Funding rental assistance, utilities, food assistance which included undocumented immigrants. Palm Springs City Council member Holstege led that fight. These progressive policies and investments came with multiple city council meetings and meetings that went upto midnight. If we had a progressive Palm Springs City council, us organizers and city council wouldn't have been up late into the night. If we had a Progressive City Council in Palm Springs councilmembers Holstege and Garner would not have had to spend numerous hours trying to make the case that we need strong tenant protections that go beyond the Governor’s executive order and Judicial Council ruling.
Without PS Councilmember Holstege, we would not have a 6 month payment plan for tenants to catch up on rent to avoid eviction.
During the COVID 19 crisis and the response to the murder of George Floyd, I saw councilmember Holstege more than ever, demonstrate what civil rights leader Ella Baker called “democratic existentialism,” a dimension of organizing and mobilizing, a humility with the people. Christy exemplifying service alongside the people. Christy introduced the 'Police Review' to the city council, police budgeting review and the resolution to declare racism a public health crisis. Councilmember Holstege reached out to us, Bayanihan Desert, leaders who are now forming Coachella DSA, Desert Highland, Coachella Valley Immigrant Dignity Coalition, LGTBQ rights activists and other community members to work together with us to move these issues After each Palm Springs city council meeting, we know we didn't have both Progressive Palm Springs Residents and full support from our Palm Springs City Council. Us organizers knew if we didn’t organize and get the community to do public comments, we weren’t going to get pro people of color, low income or community policies and investments. Since Christy got elected in 2016, she fought to introduce Palm Springs Sanctuary City and many other social justice policies and resolutions. Now with the election of councilmember Grace Garner, immigrant, racial and economic justice investments and policies are being spearheaded by both councilmembers. The council needs both Christy and Grace to continue to build the support to move the rest of the council. Then these issues will not take hours of deliberation before the eventual support of the other council members. I was there on the listening sessions and the late night Palm Springs City council meetings. Were you present too?
If we fail to re-elect Christy, those of us organizing will lose the opportunity to co-create transformative Economic justice work to expanding affordable housing, to create a community land trust to make a house a place to live and not a casino chip in a mutual fund, to include people of color and low income people in economic recovery planning. The multiple crisis of COVID 19, Trump and instability caused by police violence, we need to transform our social and economic systems and allies like Palm Springs City Councilmember Christy Holstege are a treasure we cannot afford to risk.
We make a plea to you all to either support and fight with us to get her re-elected, or at least don’t get in the way of her re-election.
