Margo Rowder
Margo Rowder co-authored Burbank's first-ever rent control measure. After finalizing it with Public Counsel, I collected 2,000 signatures from voters and went to court to defend its rightful place on the ballot. I co-founded a tenants' rights nonprofit which holds monthly know-your-rights clinics providing legal guidance from Eviction Defense Network.
My professional background is in messaging, and I am an award-winning communicator. In 2015, I invited Amy Poehler's Smart Girls to partner with the Television Academy and evolve the conversation on the EMMYs red carpet. With participation from Hillary Clinton, Shonda Rimes, and a long line of celebrities, #SmartGirlsAsk won over hearts and minds as I'd predicted.
I am VP of Political Action for Burbank Democratic Club and a dues-paying DSA member.[1]
Married to Konstantine Anthony.
Infiltrating the Dems
Every two years, California Democrats elect delegates from across the state, who then convene along with appointed party officials at the party’s Assembly District Election Meeting (ADEMS). ADEMS determines what the party stands for, making this a significant opportunity for socialists to push the California Democratic Party to the left and away from the interests of union busters, the landlord lobby, fossil fuel polluters, the corporate hospital and pharmaceutical lobby, the prison industrial complex, the corporate donor class, and others that stand against our values.
Our members are running for ADEMS delegate seats so that we’re in the room when the Democratic Party sets its agenda and makes decisions on endorsing candidates for public office. We’re fighting for issues that matter to the working class in California, like Medicare for All, Green New Deal, and Defunding the Police.
The DSA members listed below (in alphabetical order by first name) are running for ADEMS delegate seats on slates across LA County and have pledged to fight for our democratically-decided socialist values.
Assembly District 43 - Analisa Swan, Armen D. Gendjian, Brandon Rey Ramirez, Hugo Soto, Konstantine Anthony, Margo Rowder, Nikki Perez, Sean Broadbent.
Statement on Anti Blackness in the DSA
Statement on Anti Blackness in the DSA was released in February 2021:
We as the AfroSocialist and Socialists of Color Caucus stand in solidarity with the Black woman in DSA North Texas who was wrongfully suspended by DSA North Texas Co-chairs. This action by the DSA North Texas Co-chairs is racist and in particular anti-Black. This is not an isolated incident of racism but represents a pattern of anti-black and white supremacist actions within DSA which must be acknowledged, held accountable and systematically rooted out. There is a pattern of anti-black behavior that stems from the founding of DSA North Texas that has led to each generation of Co-chairs either perpetuating or being complicit in anti-black racism.
