Mark Almberg

Illinois Communist Party
In 1976 Mark Almberg was nominated as a candidate for the Illinois Communist Party USA as an elector for the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates of the Communist Party USA, Gus Hall and Jarvis Tyner. He was also a Communist Party USA candidate for University of Illinois Trustee.[1]
North Americans in Support of Angola
The Angola Support Conference ran from May 28 - 30, 1976 in Chicago. The event was sponsored by the U.S. Out of Angola Committee and the National Conference of Black Lawyers.
Mark Almberg of the Young Workers Liberation League was a delegate at the conference.[2]
Ishmael Flory tribute
Illinois Communist Party USA leader Ishmael Flory was honored at Malcolm X College in Chicago, September 29, 1991, by more than 100 guests.
Margaret Burroughs, a board member of the Chicago Park District MCed the event.
"Ishmael Flory is a man for all seasons...He never gives up", said State Senator Alice Palmer.
Alderman Jesus Garcia of Chicago's 22nd ward cited Flory's role in fostering African-American and Latino unity , and in building multi-racial coalitions for social progress.
Prof. Robert Starks of the Free South Africa Movement said "Ishmael has never failed to compliment me on my speeches, but at the same time he has never failed to pull me aside afterwards, too point out how I could have been a little more "progressive."
Tributes came from Communist Party USA chairman Gus Hall and Illinois organizational secretary Mark Almberg.
Other speakers included Crystal Bujol for the Flory family, long time friend Christine Johnson, Jack Spiegel of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union, Ronelle Mustin, peace activist Sarah Staggs, Harold Rogers, who brought greetings from Rep. Charles Hayes, Gerry Oliver, and Carl Bloice of the Peoples Weekly World.[3]
Supported Communist Party call
In May 1992 the Communist Party USA newspaper Peoples Weekly World published a May Day supplement which included a call to "support our continuing struggle for justice and dignity"
Endorsers of the call included Mark Almberg, Chicago.[4]
Labor Day call
The Communist Party USA paper People's Weekly World issued a statement to mark Labor Day 1995, entitled "We honor the dead and fight like hell for the living."
Of the more than 100 endorsers listed, almost all were identified members of the Communist Party USA.
Almberg of Chicago, Illinois was on the list.[5]
Communist Party USA
In 2001 the Structure and Organization Convention Committee for the 27th National Convention of the Communist Party USA[6]included Marc Brodine (WA), Bill Davis (NY), Rosita Johnson (E. PA), Steve Noffke (MI), Brian Steinberg CT), Shelby Richardson (Ill) and Mark Almberg (ILL).
In September 2006 the Peoples Weekly World[7]listed several members of the Illinois Communist Party USA.

Endorsed Communist Party Call
On March 30 2002 the Communist Party USA paper People’s Weekly World called for a national holiday in honor of late Farm Workers Union leader Cesar Chavez. The article was followed by a long list of endorsers[8]including Mark Almberg, Almost all endorsers were confirmed members of the Communist Party USA.
People's Weekly World
In 2004, in the March 27-April2, 2004 edition of the People's Weekly World, Mark Almberg was listed as the "Managing Editor", on p. 10.
In 2007, Almberg was a Chicago-based Managing Editor at the People's Weekly World newspaper.
Physicians for a National Health Program
In 2009 Mark Almberg was listed as National Office Staff, Communications Director for Physicians for a National Health Program[9]
This organization, PNHP, was largely created by identified and Fifth Amendment CPUSA member Quentin Young of Chicago, who also helped to found the SDS and Chicago 1968 demonstrators "health care/first aid" mechanism known as the Medical Committee for Human Rights MCHR. Over the years, Young has spearheaded nearly every major leftist organization/plan for a universal or one-payer healthcare plan, and he has been an advisor to President Barack Obama on this issue. Young obviously knew Almberg from both their Communist Party/front organizations days in Chicago.
