2024 committee
In early 2024, after more than a year and a half of dedicated service, Kristian Hernandez and Beth Huang are stepping down as DSA Growth and Development Committee Co-Chairs. We express our sincere gratitude for their contributions in fostering our organization’s growth.
We welcome Colleen Johnston (Denver) and Shane Katz (Baltimore) as the new Co-Chairs of the DSA GDC. Additionally, we are excited to introduce the new GDC Steering Committee of National Political Committee (NPC) members Alex Pellitteri (NYC), Frances Gill (Los Angeles), Sam Heft-Luthy (San Francisco), and Rashad X (Lakefront), as well as (non-NPC members) Michaela Brangan (River Valley), Sarah Callahan (Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky), Beth Huang (Ithaca), Justin Charles (NYC), Alex Finch (Chicago), Kara Hall Zuniga (Las Vegas), Kristian Hernandez (North Texas), and Josh Rusinov (Northern NJ). Together, this team of committed individuals is poised to drive our growth initiatives forward.
The GDC is the primary internal organizing committee for DSA. We develop and implement strategies and programs to grow and sustain DSA, including recruitment and retention drives, surveys, leadership training, chapter mentorship and grants, and more.[1]

Activist bio
Running for NPC.
- I’m a health care worker and a rank-and-file member of my union, the Committee for Interns and Residents (CIR). As an active member of my union, I was elected to our bargaining team last year and helped to negotiate our new contract, which included big wage increases and improved working conditions for me and my coworkers.
- In DSA LA, I’ve been most active in the Labor Committee, where I have served as coordinator and then co-chair of the committee. I’m most proud of our committee’s strike support this year, which has included picket line support for teachers, hospitality workers, starbucks workers, writers, and more! Prior to being in DSA LA, I lived in New Orleans, where I helped to found New Orleans DSA. I also co-chaired the chapter during a winning campaign to save the public library system from being defunded.[3]

Hurricane fundraiser
When Hurricane Laura struck Lake Charles and the surrounding communities, the Democratic Socialists of SWLA got right to work. We quickly got connected with New Orleans DSA and Mutual Aid Disaster Relief to start organizing mutual aid and direct relief for their neighbors and community members.
Joseph Thibodeaux and Frances Gill organized the fundraiser.[4]
