Supported Progressive Health Care Reform
In late 2009, Emily Cain was one of more than 1,000 state legislators to sign a letter entitled "State Legislators for Progressive Health Care Reform". The letter was a project of the Progressive States Network and was developed in consultation with national health care reform advocates, including the AFL-CIO, AFSCME, Community Catalyst, Families USA, Herndon Alliance, National Women's Law Center, Northeast Action, SEIU, and Universal Health Care Action Network. The letter reads in part,[1]
- "Failure to pass national comprehensive health reform now will further jeopardize state and local budgets, undermining public services like education, public safety, and transportation infrastructure... We, the undersigned, call on President Obama and the Congress to enact bold and comprehensive health care reform this year – based on these principles and a strong federal-state collaboration – and pledge our support as state legislators and allies in pursuit of guaranteed, high quality, affordable health care for all."
ARA endorsement, 2014
The Alliance for Retired Americans Political Action Fund endorsed Emily Cain in her 2014 run for Dist. 2 (ME) .[2]
CLW
In 2016 Emily Cain was supported by Council for a Livable World.
- Prior to running for Congress, Emily won tough races in northern Maine for ten years. She is a proven vote getter, winning her first campaign for the Maine House of Representatives at the age of 24. In 2010, she became the youngest woman in history to serve as minority leader in the Maine State House. She went on to win three re-election campaigns, each with at least 67 percent of the vote. In 2011, Cain won a competitive race for the State Senate, defeating her Republican opponent with 62 percent of the vote.
- Emily Cain’s legislative record, coupled with her collaborative and determined style of leadership, make her an appealing alternative to Congressman Poliquin for voters fed up with partisan gridlock in Washington.
- Cain would be a strong advocate of preventing a nuclear-armed Iran. She supports the Kissinger-Schulz-Nunn-Perry vision of moving responsibly toward a world free of nuclear weapons, would reduce the nuclear weapons budget and believes that U.S. military spending is too high.[3]
