Bio
Verbatim for his run for the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee:[2]
- "I'm running for a seat on the San Mateo County Democratic Central Committee (SMCDCC) in District 2 (San Mateo, Foster City, and most of Belmont). The main responsibilities of the position are to vet candidates and ballot measures and vote on whether to endorse them.
- After campaigning for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democratic primary, I turned my attention to local politics. In January 2017, I ran for and won a two-year term as an Assembly Delegate (commonly called an “ADEM”) to the California Democratic Party (CADEM). In that position, I joined the Progressive caucus and campaigned and voted for Kimberly Ellis for CADEM chair. Ms. Ellis narrowly lost to establishment favorite Eric Baumann, who later resigned due to allegations of sexual misconduct.
- Further, near the end of 2016 I joined the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). I joined DSA because I realized we needed to build a mass movement putting people before profit to counteract growing right-wing nationalism and authoritarianism. After attending a couple DSA-San Francisco meetings, I founded a local chapter in San Mateo County, "Peninsula DSA." I've been a leader in Peninsula DSA since 2017.
- Through Peninsula DSA, I have:
- Organized several canvasses for Bernie Sanders for President and Expanded-and-Improved Medicare for All;
- Joined picket lines with Unite Here! Local 2 at several locations. Notably, we picketed with Pullman Hotel staff as they fought for a union that they eventually won;
- Endorsed Diana Reddy for Redwood City Council and supported her successful campaign;
- Fought for a variety of tenant protections and housing affordability measures, including: Prop 10 (Repeal of Costa-Hawkins); studies on rent control; and early implementation of AB 1482’s “just cause eviction” and “rent caps;"
- Fought for Justice for Chinedu Okobi, an unarmed Black man killed by police in Millbrae;
- Hosted & supported multiple “Free Brake Light Clinics” to replace broken lights to reduce the chances people would get pulled over by police;
- Successfully lobbied Rep. Speier to co-sponsor bills for Medicare-for-All and a Green New Deal; and
- Helped a progressive slate of candidates win ADEM seats in 2019.
