Standing for AD 70

In 2019 Allison Miller stood from AD 70 for the California Democratic Party Central Committee.

I am an RN who works with Cancer patients and I also practice Forensic Nursing for victims of sexual assaults. I am committed to ending health care disparities and moving towards equal access, having spent much time on campaigns such as Medicare for all, SB562, the Pharm Bill, and Prop 61. Economic and racial inequalities are a daily struggle for many in our area, and my passion for social justice moves me to be active in the fights against rent increase and to push for livable wages and continued safety for hotel workers, or for those who suffer from human trafficking. I’ve joined the efforts fighting for a clean environment against such things as Fracking, and have spoken to public officials regarding the health complications from the Torrance Refinery and Aliso Canyon Porter Ranch leaks.

I am running as a Delegate in hopes to continue to reform the Democratic Party to a more progressive bridge so that the gap between the voters and the actual seated politicians can be filled and peoples needs are better met. I have sat on many boards in my long career as a Secretary and then as a Nurse and have been involved in Labor unions such as the Teamsters and the California Nurses Association/National Nurses United. I presently sit on the Professional Practice Council at my hospital where our committee oversees Nurse Practice Complaints and Patient Safety Issues and we meet with the Chief Nurse Officer and Management to dialogue on how our problems can best be resolved. I have testified in Sacramento at hearings regarding patient lift assist needs that Nurses and other work place professionals did not have, and I have addressed the Long Beach City Council several times regarding Nurse or Patient issues: the latest being the closure of Community Hospital of Long Beach where I joined the campaign to keep it open.

I did campaign for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic Primaries, traveling out of state in that effort, and I also was a Delegate by Proxy as a ADEM at the California Democratic Convention and was able to strike a vote for Kimberly Ellis who lost disappointingly to Eric Bauman.

I’ve gained a reputation for standing up where or when others won’t, and of not being afraid of the Structured Elite. I believe we need to hold our own Parties and Associations accountable when need be, and to be heard as a loud voice for those who can’t speak when necessary. [1]
