Norman Roth
Template:TOCnestleft Norman C. Roth was a Chicago activist. He died in February 2011, age 93.
Roth worked as a writer and editorial board member of the trade union activist magazine, Labor Today, for 25 years.
He maintained his activity in the Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights, the National Negro Labor Council, the NAACP, the Coalition of Labor Union Women, the Chicago Peace Council, the Third Unitarian Church, the NAARPR/Chicago Branch, the UAW Region 4 Retirees Council, and the Communist Party USA.[1]
A resident of Oak Park for many years, was married for nearly 60 years to Lena Roth who passed away in 2005. Norman Roth is survived by his daughter Armine "Nini" (Reed) Hogate;

Nat'l Conference for a Drastic Cutback in Military Spending
The Communist Party USA controlled Chicago Peace Council convened a "National Conference for a Drastic Cutback in Military Spending" in Chicaqo, April 5 & 6, 1975.
The purpose of the National Conference is to mount a national campaign and a vigorous program of action which will speak to the hundreds of thousands who were part of the inspiring resistance to the war in Indo- china. The people of the U.S. can and must turn this country around.
Speakers at the Conference included Congressman Abner Mikva, Robert Johnston (regional Director, UAW), Richard Criley (Exec. Dir. Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights), Norman Roth (Pres. Local 6, UAW), Fr. Gerard Grant S.J. (Loyola University); Ed Sadlowski (Regional Director, United Steel Workers Union) and Frank Rosen (Intl. V-P, U.E.)[4].
Supported Communist Party call
In May 1992 the Communist Party USA newspaper Peoples Weekly World published a May Day supplement which included a call to "support our continuing struggle for justice and dignity"
Endorsers of the call included Norman Roth, UAW, retired.[5]

In 1994 Norman Roth, Chicago, was listed on a "Membership, Subscription and Mailing List" for the Chicago Committees of Correspondence, an offshoot of the Communist Party USA[6]
Letter to the Editor of the People's Weekly World
- Norman Roth - Oak Park, Illinois, wrote a letter to the editor of the PWW entitled "PWW: Valuable to workers", Sept. 24, 1994 edition, Page 16, which said, en toto:
"There is no other paper published in our country tat can match the "People's Weekly World's" value to the working class and its allies as a source of information and guide to action."
"'Playing on the boss's team' (PWW 8/27) is a prime example of the timely, working class answers that are so urgently needed to repel the attacks against the workers and their organizations. Bruce Grant and Denise Winebrenner deserve the highest commendations for the content and clarity of this incisive, valuable tool for working class struggle."
"I would like to suggest that the article be reprinted as a brochure to be distributed as widely as possible. Enclosed is a donation that I hope can spark such a project."
Communist Party Labor Day call
The Communist Party USA paper People's Weekly World issued a statement to mark Labor Day 1995, entitled "We honor the dead and fight like hell for the living."
Of the more than 100 endorsers listed, almost all were identified members of the Communist Party USA.
Norman Roth, UAW Local 6 (retired) Chicago, was on the list.[7]
Birthday Greetings to William "Red" Davis
In December 1995 the Communist Party USA newspaper Peoples Weekly World published a page of 75th birthday greetings to William (Red) Davis - "Lifelong working class fighter and Communist"
- In the fight for the unity and integrity of the Party in St. Louis, Missouri, in the post-war years, "Red" has been a rock of confidence and commitment to building the Communist Party.
Greetings were sent from Norman Roth of Illinois[8].
Paul Robeson 100th Birthday Committee
In 1998 Norman Roth was listed as a volunteer and intern of Paul Robeson 100th Birthday Committee.[9]
Endorsed Communist Party Call
On March 30 2002 the Communist Party USA paper People’s Weekly World called for a national holiday in honor of late Farm Workers Union leader Cesar Chavez. The article was followed by a long list of endorsers[10]including Norm Roth, Almost all endorsers were confirmed members of the Communist Party USA.
Honoring Frank Wilkinson
Chicago Committee to Defend the Bill of Rights organized a "Celebration of the The Dynamic Life of Frank Wilkinson (1914-2006)" on Sunday October 29, 2006. Wilkinson had been a leader of the Communist Party USA, the New American Movement and Democratic Socialists of America[11].
Honoring Committee members included Norman Roth .
NAARPR
In 2009 Norman Roth was Labor Outreach officer of the Chicago branch of the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression[12].
