Council for a Livable World
In 2018 Jared Golden was endorsed by Council for a Livable World.[1] Again in 2020.
- Jared Golden represents the Second District of Maine, most of the northern portion of the state, and serves on the Armed Services Committee and Small Business Committee.
- Rep. Golden was endorsed by the Council for a Livable World during his successful and extremely tight 2018 Congressional race against a Republican incumbent. In his first year in Congress, he voted against building a new, low yield nuclear weapon for submarines, against building new medium range missiles non-compliant with the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty and for prohibiting U.S. military action against Iran without prior congressional approval.
- He grew up in Leeds, a small town in Androscoggin County. After enlisting as an infantryman in the Marines, Golden deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan before returning home to Maine.
- In 2020, he is likely to face a Republican candidate who ran for Senate in 2018.
Leftists backing Jared Golden
Rand Wilson is deciding between devoting his time to the contest for an open seat in New Hampshire’s First Congressional District that could easily go Republican or campaigning for Jared Golden, the Democrats’ nominee challenging Republican Rep. Bruce Poliquin in Maine’s 2nd Congressional District race[2]
Rand Wilson November 3 2018:
Let’s flip the House! Great to knock doors today with this crew to put Jared Golden over the top in Maine’s Congressional District 2. — with Enid Eckstein, Joanie Parker and Leslie Cohen in Farmington, Maine.
Maine People's Alliance
Jared Golden for Congress June 7, 2018 · Thank you Maine People's Alliance! The Democratic primary is FIVE days away -- let's get ready to Get Out The Vote!
“We’re endorsing Jared because of his track record of doing what’s right, even when the going gets tough,” said MPA executive director Jesse Graham in an email to the organization’s statewide members Thursday.
Graham said MPA’s board elected to back Golden because as Maine House Assistant Majority Leader he played a vital role in staving off Republican efforts to roll back the voter-approved minimum wage increase.
“When other lawmakers, even some Democrats, voted to cut back wages for some of Maine’s lowest-paid workers, Jared stood strong in defending the minimum wage increase,” Graham said, echoing the Maine AFL-CIO’s endorsement of Golden last month.[3]
SwingLeft support
Jared Golden benefited from a significant infusion of outside money and ground troops. Much of that support was organized by Swing Left, a group founded to help volunteers support progressives in their closest swing district.
In October and November, more than 100 volunteers from Massachusetts traveled out of state to volunteer for congressional campaigns. According to SwingLeft, Jared Golden had 40 volunteers from Massachusetts alone who spent a total of 213 volunteer days on his campaign![4]
National Nurses United endorsement
