Career

Prior to founding IWPR, Hartmann was on the faculties of Rutgers University and the New School for Social Research and worked at the National Research Council/National Academy of Sciences. She is co-editor of the Journal of Women, Politics & Policy.[1]

Institute for Women's Policy Research

Heidi Hartmann is the President of the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Women's Policy Research, a scientific research organization that she founded in 1987 to meet the need for women-centered, policy-oriented research.[1]

National Council of Women’s Organizations

Hartmann has worked as Vice-Chair of the National Council of Women’s Organizations.[1] She currently works as Treasurer/Secretary for the organization.[2]

"Socialist Feminists: Who Are We Now?"

The Democratic Socialists of America Feminist Commission held a conference entitled "Socialist Feminists: Who Are We Now?" January 8-10 1993 in Washington, D.C. The conference was designed to help set a socialist feminist agenda for the Clinton era.

Over 100 people attended the opening-night plenary, which featured Heidi Hartmann of the Institute for Women's Policy Research, NOW president Patricia Ireland, D.C. activist Gwen McKinney, and Kay Ostberg of the Human Rights Campaign Fund.

Saturday afternoon's session was entitled "Breaking Bread: Can We Be Part of a Multiracial Women's Movement?" Speakers included Juanita Webster, of DSA's African American Commission and the Feminist Commission;Tomasa Gonzalez, of DSA's Latino/a Commission and the Feminist Commission; and Cindy Deitch of the Feminist Commission.[3]

MacArthur Foundation

In 1994, Dr. Hartmann was the recipient of a MacArthur Foundation Fellowship Award for her work in the field of women and economics.[1]

Take Back the American Dream Conference 2011

Heidi Hartmann was one of the 158 speakers who addressed the Take Back the American Dream Conference 2011 . The Conference was hosted by the Institute for Policy Studies, and Democratic Socialists of America dominated Campaign for America's Future, [6]

Agenda for Shared Prosperity

On May 24, 2007, Agenda for Shared Prosperity, a project of the Democratic Socialists of America-dominated Economic Policy Institute, sponsored an event entitled "Getting Real About Families". Speaking at the event were Rep. Rosa DeLauro, introduced by Lawrence Mishel, Heidi Hartmann, introduced by Harold Meyerson, and Janet Gornick.[7]

Feb. 2009 EFCA statement

On February 24, 2009 Richard B. Freeman, Frank Levy and Lawrence Mishel, issued an Economic Policy Institute Employee Free Choice Act Statement on the Economic Policy Institute website, calling for the passage of the pro labor union Employee Free Choice Act.[8]

On April 21, 2009, Heidi Hartmann spoke alongside Steve Husson, Arlene Holt Baker, Barbara Ehrenreich, Ai-jen Poo, Kim Gandy, Johanna Moon, Sherrod Brown at the DC Lobby Day for members of the Workers Rights Board of Jobs with Justice - Employee Free Choice Act.[9]
