The Abraham Lincoln Battalion was a corps of United States volunteers who served on the Republican side in the Spanish Civil War from January 1937 until November 1938. There were seven International Brigades, which were made up of at least three battalions. Each of these Brigades was formed by Communist International. The Abraham Lincoln Battalion fought alongside the George Washington Battalion at Brunete in July 1937 in a brutal battle that reared casualties as high as 50 percent. The following day, the two battalions had to merge.[1]
