Vivek Hallegere Murthy was Surgeon General of the United States appointed by Barack Obama. He was the founder of Doctors for America. He is known for his pro-Gun Control positions.

In 2011, President Obama appointed Murthy to the national Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, and Integrative and Public Health. The following year Murthy served as co-chair of the health care advisory committee for Obama’s re-election campaign.[1]

Surgeon General Appointment
Vivek Murthy is known for his pro-gun control stance. On Oct 16, 2012, he Tweeted: "Tired of politicians playing politics w/ guns, putting lives at risk b/c they're scared of NRA. Guns are a health care issue." He was "among the hardest nominees for Obama to get confirmed" as reported at ABC News.[3]
Doctors for Obama
Doctors for America began as Doctors for Obama, "an arm of the Obama campaign"[4]
