Hobart a. Spalding, Jr. is retired as Professor of History from the City University of New York (CUNY). He focuses on Latin America and the Caribbean, specializing in working class and labor history, and has published widely in both fields. He sits on the editorial board of several publications, most notably Socialism and Democracy[1] and is is on the Editorial Committee for the North American Congress on Latin America.[2]

On October 30 and 31, 1998 the Brecht Forum presented the "Communist Manifestivity to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the Communist Manifesto" at Cooper Union's Great Hall, New York.
