Immigration Policy Discussion Panel

UNSW Labor Left held our Refugee and Immigration Policy Discussion Panel last Thursday! It was an informative discussion mc’d by our President, Jake Mahemoff. A special shout out has to go to our two panelists for sharing their insights and experiences.
We heard from Zaki Haidari, a Hazara refugee from Afghanistan, about the cruelty of Australia’s immigration system and how it contributes to negative social views towards immigrants as well as our failures to uphold our international obligations under the 1951 refugee convention.
We also heard from Violet Roumeliotis about the work being done to support refugees and immigrants arriving in Australia and what needs to happen to ensure that they get a fair go in their new home country.
