Background
"I remember being seven-years-old and extremely excited to visit my uncle at his place of employment. Everything changed when the security officer mocked us and refused to believe that my brother and I were related to my uncle. My brother's response to my bewildered questioning, 'Because we are white,' marked the moment in my life when race became more than just a difference in skin color. As I matured, my lens expanded beyond my interracial family to include a passion for social justice for all people."
C. Terrill Thompson has nearly fifteen years of professional nonprofit management experience in strategic planning, board development, program management, infrastructure development and board/staff relations. Terrill is the founder and principal of CTThompson Consulting, an organization development consulting business that increases the effectiveness of mission-driven organizations, coalitions, and social justice groups by providing customized facilitation, consulting, and training support. He has an open and collaborative approach that respects and builds upon clients' expertise.
Terrill brings experience as a former executive director of a diversity- focused youth service organization, as well as years of activist experience working on a variety of issues. Terrill has spent substantial time living, traveling and working in South East Asia and Eastern Africa and brings an international perspective to all of his work. Terrill has served on grant-making committees and boards, including as the recent past Vice Chair of the Alliance for Nonprofit Management, and is an editorial board member with Nonprofit World Magazine, and a thought leader with Win Insights, an organization committed to creating inclusive work environments. Terrill is a qualified administrator and interpreter of the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator® (MBTI) assessment and is the author of the Nonprofit Organizational Model©, an organizational assessment and strategic planning model designed specifically for nonprofit organizations. He is also the published author of The Struggles, Experiences and Needs of Children in LGBTQ Families.
Terrill earned a Master's Degree in Organization Development from American University/NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science, where he was awarded a Segal-Seashore Fellowship for his commitment to social justice. He also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Peace and Global Studies from Earlham College and is a member of the NTL Institute for Applied Behavioral Science.[1]
