Sema Hernandez

Sema Hernandez is a Texas activist and member of the Houston Communist Party. She worked in healthcare for 6 years until she attended college to obtain a ASN degree. Having a background in healthcare, Sema has experienced the flaws first hand in our healthcare system, something most politicians have not. Sema was a volunteer baseball coach several seasons and volunteer organizer for local baseball organizations. She is a passionate human rights advocate, activist and organizer in the Houston area.[1]


Sema Hernandez is a member of Democratic Socialists of America, who supports the DSA platform and DSA values. Before Sema officially joined the organization, she contributed to the DSA platform.

Senate run

In 2018 Sema Hernandez ran for US from Texas.[2]

My name is Irasema Hernandez, but people call me Sema. I'm 32 years old and a U.S. Citizen. I'm daughter of immigrants, a wife, mother of four boys, baseball coach, small business owner, community volunteer, activist, Democratic Socialist and Berniecrat.

She got approximately 250,000 votes.


In 2018 Sema Hernandez was a member of the Houston Communist Party.[3]

Poor People's Campaign


Sema Hernandez is now one of the state leaders of the Poor People's Campaign. She just returned from the national Poor People's Campaign event in Washington DC where she was a featured speaker. While there Sema also had a dance with Rev. Barber!.[6]
