Salute to Harold Washington
On April 6, 1983, the Hyde Park Herald published an endorsement from the Hyde Park/Kenwood Citizens Committee of Democratic Party Chicago mayoral candidate Harold Washington. Signatories to the endorsement included Lois Dobry and Alan Dobry.[2]
Supporting Obama
During his 1995 Illinois State Senate race Barack Obama had lined up support from Toni Preckwinkle, his alderman, and Ivory Mitchell, the local ward chairman. The Alice Palmer endorsement brought with it local operators and local activists. The operators helped Obama get on the ballot and handled the mechanics of his election. Two key operators were Alan Dobry and his wife, Lois Dobry, then in their late sixties and leaders of the Independent movement[3].
