Fighting Sheriff Joe Arpaio

National Day Laborer Organizing Network "focuses on immigrant rights and has been using a strategy honed in fights against former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, whose immigration crackdown in Arizona's largest county is a possible model for the Trump administration. The group has been co-hosting community meetings where nervous immigrants and eager, mobilized new volunteers can learn the basics of immigration law and how to protect their rights."[6]

Illegal Immigrants

National Day Laborer Organizing Network has been "pushing state and local officials to step up protections for [illegal] immigrants. 'The pressure for action will be felt more sharply on the local level,' (Chris Newman, legal director of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network) said. "There are increasing expectations for mayors and governors and state lawmakers."

Legal Scholars Endorse California Trust Act

National Day Laborer Organizing Network posted a letter[8] of "legal scholars" who endorsed California's Trust Act, which California Gov. Jerry Brown signed into law in October, 2013.

Trust Act Immigration Legislation "limits the state’s cooperation with Secure Communities, a federal program that allows the Department of Homeland Security to access fingerprints taken by local police, to screen detained individuals for immigration status and to request that law enforcement agencies hold them if they’re found to be undocumented."[9]
