James Cracraft
Template:TOCnestleft James Cracraft formally retired from his position as professor of history at the University of Illinois at Chicago effective September 1, 2007, and assumed, by act of the Board of Trustees, the rank of Professor Emeritus in recognition of "distinguished service to the University of Illinois[1]."
Salute to Harold Washington
On April 6, 1983, the Hyde Park Herald published an endorsement from the Hyde Park/Kenwood Citizens Committee of Democratic Party Chicago mayoral candidate Harold Washington. Signatories to the endorsement included James Cracraft.[2]
Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
As at April 1984, James Cracraft served as Senior Editor on the staff of the Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists journal.[3]

Chicago Center for US/USSR Relations and Exchanges
As at May 13, 1988, James Cracraft, Professor of Soviet Studies, University of Illinois served on the Board of Directors of the Chicago Center for US/USSR Relations and Exchanges.[5] Cracraft was an interviewer on the live call-in broadcast set up by Sondra Gair, a WBEZ-FM radio journalist. The broadcast attempts to bring out the sense of identity and pride held by Soviet Ukranians.[6]
Grant evaluator
Cracraft regularly serve as an evaluator of grant and fellowship proposals to the Soros Foundation, (Prague), the Wilson Center, NEH, the Getty Foundation, MacArthurs Foundation etc.; as outside referee in tenure and promotion cases at other universities; as reader of book-manuscript and article submissions to university presses and scholarly journals; as external reviewer of academic programs at other universities and colleges (History Department, Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge, April 2002; Russian Studies program, St. Olaf's College, Minnesota, October 2002)[7].
