Eleanor Nelson was an open organizer for the CIO’s federal employees union and identified by numerous persons Herbert Fuchs and Paul Porter (former husband) among others] as a secret Communist Party USA activist. Julian Wadleigh in the second Hiss trial testified to having been a spy for Chambers’ apparatus and that Eleanor Nelson had originally recruited him.[1]
