Derek Marshall was born in Boston, Massachusetts. Marshall earned bachelor's and graduate degrees from American University in 2005 and 2006, respectively. His career experience includes working as a community organizer with the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign, as a director of internationalization for web-based travel company Kayak, and in international relations.

Working Families Party

In 2024 Derek Marshall was the Working Families Party endorsed candidate for U.S. House, District 23 California.[1]

Congressional run

Derek Marshall (Democratic Party) is running for election to the U.S. House to represent California's 23rd Congressional District. He is on the ballot in the general election on November 8, 2022. He advanced from the primary on June 7, 2022.

Progressive Democrats of America 2024 House challenger endorsements were Susheela Jayapal, Derek Marshall, Jamie McLeod-Skinner.[2]

In April 2021 Coachella Valley for Democratic Socialism public FB page members included Derek Marshall.

Standing for AD 53

In 2019 Derek Marshall stood from AD 53 for the California Democratic Party Central Committee.

Derek is a community organizer and promoter, who founded the Party by Ostbahnhof, an underground queer event series in Downtown LA. Throughout his life, he has dedicated himself to finding creative solutions to empower his fellow humans. His work has ranged from founding an international non-profit research initiative tasked with simplifying the United Nations information system to producing the film Of Fortune and Gold that questioned the status quo.

A self-described Green Social Democrat, Derek has been heavily involved in local activism, working on a number of progressive campaigns and coordinating a number of direct actions, including the protests against the Muslim ban at LAX. He is a fierce believer in Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and the championing of migrant’s rights. As Assembly Delegate, he will listen intently to his constituents, so that he may be the most efficient mouthpiece for their wishes.[4]
