Background

David Nelson is a fourth-generation Idahoan who grew up on a Genesee wheat ranch. A graduate of the University of Idaho, Nelson left Idaho to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry writing software that helps companies manage their energy more efficiently.

He returned to Idaho 20 years ago with a flourishing business he started with his boss when the two left Chevron to work together. Since then, David’s company has grown to employ more than 50 people working in Idaho, Texas and Argentina.

David’s interest in politics began as a kid as he watched – and helped – his father knock on doors as he successfully ran for Latah County Commissioner. “I saw him calmly and respectfully talk to all people and gain an understanding of where their concerns and motivations were and how he used those insights while in office,” David said.

In the last 10 years, he has worked as a Democratic County and Legislative district chair, recruiting candidates and coordinating the party’s operations. He helped recruit and elect Senator Dan Schmidt, Representative Paulette Jordan, Latah County Commission Tom Lamar, and Latah County Clerk Henrianne Westberg.

David lives in Moscow with his wife Nancy Nelson.[2]
