Event by Shelter & Solidarity: A Deep Dive with Artists and Activists, encuentro 5 and 2 others
Following a successful national convention (August 2021), Democratic Socialists of America faces a still pandemic-ridden nation, beset with extractive inequalities, political dysfunction, and the rapid onset of catastrophic climate change. As the largest organized, left wing formation, the moment poses special strategic and organizational challenges, ones surfaced in Bill Fletcher, Jr.’s “The Modern Tecumseh” essay. In this post-convention conversation, we talk with David Duhalde (DSA Fund), Kristian Hernandez (DSA), Matt Nelson (Presente.org), and Bill Fletcher, Jr., Meleiza Figueroa (Campus Antifascist Network) and David Cobb (Cooperation Humboldt), themselves well-known organizers and movement theorists host the conversation.
LGBTs speak out at Jill Stein rally
In October 2016 Ann Menasche spoke at a rally for former Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein. She was quoted as saying:[1]
- “The corporate rulers tell a lie, that we must vote the lesser evil, that we must vote with our fears, not our hopes, in order to stop things from getting even worse,” said Ann Menasche, local lesbian activist and Green Party of San Diego member. “They tell us to swallow the medicine and choose between Donald, the bigoted, billionaire buffoon who can’t keep his mouth shut or his hands off women’s bodies, or Hillary, the double talking darling of Wall Street and Neocons promoting fracking all around the world, who can’t keep her missiles from raining down on other countries. [But] there’s another choice out there folks. There’s another woman in the raise!”
Other speakers included Kareem Samuel, Lucila Conde, Fayaz Nawabi, Lace Watkins, Mark Bartlett, David Cobb.[2]
FightingBobFest speaker
David Cobb was a guest speaker at Wisconsin's annual progressive Fighting Bob Fest, in 2004.[3]
911 "Truther"
David Cobb, presidential candidate Green Party USA, was one of 100 "prominent Americans" who signed an October 26 2004 statement[4]circulated by 911Truth.org calling on the U.S. Government to investigate 9/11 as a possible "inside job".
- ...we have assembled 100 notable Americans and 40 family members of those who died to sign this 9/11 Statement, which calls for immediate public attention to unanswered questions that suggest that people within the current administration may indeed have deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.
