Carol Paris

Carol Paris has over 25 years experience working as a psychiatrist in many settings in the US, including private practice, community mental health, prison psychiatry, and academia. She is an outspoken critic of the US healthcare system, and is currently President of PNHP - Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) and have been a member of the board since 2014.

I have helped to organize medical student chapters of PNHP and am a mentor to the Vanderbilt University Chapter. I testified before the Maryland State Legislature on the advantages of a Single Payer, Improved Medicare for All approach to the financing of health care. I have also been an activist, protesting in Congress and touring with the "Mad As Hell Doctors", in support of Single Payer/Improved Medicare for All.

Activism

From March 2013-March 2014, Paris worked as a Consultant Psychiatrist at a community mental health center in Auckland, New Zealand, and tried to learn all she could about their approach to national, publicly-financed healthcare. Paris retired when she returned from New Zealand and has continued to volunteer for PNHP, currently in the role of President.[1]

Paris is also on the steering committee of Health Over Profit for Everyone.

When the Affordable Care Act was working its way through Congress in 2009 and 2010, she went to several demonstrations and protests.

"This is important," she said. "People are dying in this country for lack of healthcare, I'm a physician and I can't stand by that."[2]
