1993 Hershel Walker Peace and Justice Awards
The third annual Hershel Walker Peace and Justice Award was held May 1, 1993. honorees were;
- Alice Widom, vice president of the W. E. B. DuBois Foundation and a former leader of the National Association of Black Social Workers.
- Bob Tibbs, a 'progressive' leader since 1967. Business manager for Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union.
- Kenneth Jones, independent Alderman, St. Louis 22nd ward. Jones has campaigned against David Duke in Louisiana, and supported labor struggles, including the Delta pride Catfish workers.
A special award went to Elliott Waxman, Peoples Weekly World manager in St.Louis for over 40 years.
Keynote speaker was Jarvis Tyner of the Communist Party USA.
James Hughes, Friends of the Peoples Weekly World, was also present.[1]
Birthday Greetings to William "Red" Davis
In December 1995 the Communist Party USA newspaper Peoples Weekly World published a page of 75th birthday greetings to William (Red) Davis - "Lifelong working class fighter and Communist"
- In the fight for the unity and integrity of the Party in St. Louis, Missouri, in the post-war years, "Red" has been a rock of confidence and commitment to building the Communist Party.
Greetings were sent from Bob Tibbs of Missouri[2].
