Barry Lee is the brother of Bill Lee, husband of Anna Lee and the son-in-law of Cecil Fowler.

Richard Taylor and Barry Lee were active in the Progressive Youth Movement in the early 1970s. Bill was later a member of the Communist Party of New Zealand, and an editor of the People's Voice.
Young CPNZ recruits
In the early 1970s the Communist Party of New Zealand recruited several younger members including Bill Lee and Barry Lee and Roger Fowler in Auckland , Peter Wilson in Wellington and Tony Currie in Christchurch.[1]
