Democratic primary

In April 2011, Andy Heidt joined the Primary race to fill the state Assembly seat held by Joe Parisi.

Andy Heidt, was a former member of the Madison City Council and ombudsman for the Dane County Department of Human Services. Heidt is the president AFSCME 1871, Dane County Professionals, and "as such, he has a deep connection with — and knowledge of — the struggle to block Gov. Scott Walker’s anti-labor, anti-public services, anti-education and anti-local democracy agenda."[1]

“Governor Walker’s attacks on our commons, on our very way of life, hurt middle class families, small business, our environment and Wisconsin as a whole. I will lead for positive change that overcomes this challenge to our very quality of life,” says Heidt, who adds that “my candidacy is an extension of my lifelong commitment to public service and social change. Wisconsin has lost its way, we need strong voices to reclaim our democracy and make this great and once progressive state a place that respects individuals and communities above corporate interests and the power of their lobbyists. I will work to advance an agenda of political, economic and social justice, protecting our environment, and investing in our public schools and our communities. I will work tirelessly to restore workers’ rights and collective bargaining, and return Wisconsin to Wisconsin’s progressive policies protecting local control, women’s health, and voting rights.”
