"Welcome to the inaugural 2025 Washington China Forum, a collaborative effort between the Council on Foreign Relations’ China Strategy Initiative and the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy’s 21st Century China Center.
We gather in the heart of the nation’s capital this winter at a pivotal moment in U.S.-China relations. Just one week after President Donald Trump’s inauguration and amid shifting political dynamics in Washington, DC, this forum offers a timely opportunity for candid, bipartisan dialogue on the critical questions shaping U.S. strategy toward China.
The Washington China Forum builds on the tradition of the UC San Diego Forum on U.S.-China Relations (also known as the UC San Diego China Forum), held annually in San Diego, by convening leaders from government, business, academia, and the policy community for thoughtful and collegial discussions. Together, we aim to navigate the complexities of trade, technology, security, and diplomacy with an eye toward crafting informed, enduring, and effective policies.
