Communist support
In 2010, the Communist Party of Britain supported John Metcalfe and Avtar Saddique who stood as part of electoral alliances. Metcalfe stood on behalf of the Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition in Carlisle. Saddique stood on behalf of Unity for Peace and Socialism in Leicester East. Unity for Peace and Socialism is a domestic alliance between British domiciled sections of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) of which Saddique was a member, the Communist Party of Bangladesh and the Communist Party of Greece.
