Template:TOCnestleft Sathya Surekhaa aka Satya Vatti grew up in Southeast India and moved to the US at the age of 12. Deeply affected by the mass poverty, gender oppression, and caste discrimination experienced by her people under capitalism, she knew then that she needed to be an agent of change, but the question was how.
Years later, during her undergrad, she became a student-organizer fighting against cuts to funding and resources effecting LGBTQ, low-income, undocumented and international students. She also assisted in organizing a union for cafeteria workers at her college, and continued to assist in unionizing campaigns after graduation as a worker in the service industry.
Her practical experiences and study of world revolutionary movements confirmed to her that the capitalist system cannot be reformed. She came to Socialism as a practical alternative at the age of 21, and has not looked back since.
Today, Satya is a lead organizer in the Party for Socialism and Liberation - Albuquerque branch and is committed to building the anti-imperialist socialist movement in the U.S. She is also a writer for Liberation News focusing on Middle Eastern, South and Southeast Asian politics, and an occasional guest analyst on Radio Sputnik.
