Activism

At WKU, Minter was the first-ever chair of the WKU University Senate from 2000 to 2001, where she was committed to ensuring that teachers had a say in the decisions that affected their classrooms. In 2007, my colleagues elected me as Faculty Regent on the WKU Board of Regents, the highest governing body at the university, where she served for seven years. As an elected member, Minter worked across the aisle with people from all different walks of life; listened to the concerns of my faculty, staff, and student constituents; and did my best to share their stories with her fellow board members so we knew how our decisions would affect the campus community. I now continue to fight for my colleagues as chair of the Faculty Welfare Committee.

I’ve also shown my commitment in leading the fight for a Fairness ordinance in Bowling Green since the start of the Bowling Green Fairness movement in 2011. All people deserve basic civil rights and I’m proud to be part of the ongoing movement for equality in Bowling Green. I also serve as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the ACLU of Kentucky, where we fight for the constitutional rights and liberties guaranteed to us all.[2]

Southern Kentucky DSA is proud to to endorse Patti Minter for 20th District State Representative of Kentucky. As a private citizen she has fought for fairness and equality in Kentucky and as a state Representative she will fight for working people and progressive causes. Patti isn’t a politician, she’s a mother, a teacher, a neighbor and a person who believes in the people of the bluegrass and we’re proud to say that we believe in her!
