Palouse Democratic Socialists of America
Palouse Democratic Socialists of America is a Western Idaho, Eastern Washington affiliate of Democratic Socialists of America. After a collapse, the chapter reformed in late 2023.
Ceasefire resolution
Palouse Democratic Socialists of America, presented councilors with a ceasefire resolution to the conflict happening in the Middle East. Around 12 individuals urged the council to address the humanitarian crisis, while three discouraged the local government body from voting on the resolution.
Many councilors objected to the notion, however Councilor Carla de Lira, a member of the Palouse Democratic Socialists of America, and Councilor Eric Fejeran moved to continue the discussion.
Andre Diehl, a Washington State University graduate student and Pullman resident, said the group’s intention was to produce a productive discussion around the complicated issue while being critical of the relationship between the U.S. and Israel.
Kacey Clark, a Pullman resident, said the conflict could be handled without millions of people being killed. She added there is a responsibility, repeated throughout history, to people who are disproportionately harmed.
“Palestinian people have a right to live,” Clark said. “We’re talking about people’s lives and I think that’s the most important thing here is to protect people and families from being harmed.”[1]
Patrick Mahoney, Ph.D. candidate in political science at WSU and U.S. Marine Corps veteran, said he hoped the council would support the resolution.[2]
