Palestinian Students Association
The Palestinian Students Association (PSA) at the University of Ottawa describes themselves as a "non-political, non-religious, cultural, social, democratic, and independent club that aims to represent Palestinian students and put them together with other groups at the University of Ottawa; revive and protect the Palestinian history, culture, heritage, and folklore."[1]
Anti-Israel Protest
On Saturday, May 15, the Palestinian Students Association (PSA) at the University of Ottawa was listed as an organizer of the "NAKBA 73: RESISTANCE UNTIL LIBERATION" Protest held at 220 Elgin St, Ottawa, ON K2P 1L7, Canada.
From their Facebook Invitation:
- OTTAWA: We’re calling on all families, communities, organizations, and friends of Palestine to join us on Saturday May 15th at 1pm at the Humans Rights Monument in protest for Sheikh Jarrah and commemorating 73 years of the ongoing Nakba. Let our government know we demand them to take action and speak up about attacks on our people in Gaza, Jerusalem, West bank and all of Palestine.
- As we approach the 73rd anniversary of the Nakba, the ethnic cleansing and forced expulsion of Palestinains continues, and is only becoming more evident in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah. There, at the heart of Palestine's capital, Palestinian families are confronting the threat of imminent expulsion from their homes as the Israeli regime attempts to move Zionist settlers into the area.
- As we mark 73 years of Nakba, we recognize the Nakba itself to be an ongoing catastrophe, not a completed one. We commend our people's steadfast resistance and stand with them as the struggle for liberation continues.
The Carleton University branch of the Students for Justice in Palestine, the Palestinian Students Association at Carleton University, and the Association of Palestinian Arab Canadians were also listed as organizers of the event.[2] The Communist Party of Canada heavily promoted the NAKBA 73 event in Ottawa and other locations in Canada.[3]
