Norman Johnson is a lawyer and founding member of the National Conference of Black Lawyers.[1]
According to the National Conference of Black Lawyers website[2];
- In 1968, young people of African descent in America were growing impatient with the slow pace of social change. Despite modest advances brought on by two decades of non-violent resistance, from one end of the country to the other, the cry for Black Power was raised in the midst of a sea of clinched fists. At the same time, this new militant spirit had moved many to don black berets and carry rifles. On street corners in practically every Black community, passers-by heard demands for Nation Time and Power to the People!
The National Conference of Black Lawyers and its allied organization, the National Lawyers Guild are the U.S. affiliates of the International Association of Democratic Lawyers.[3]
The IADL, was a "front" for the former Soviet Union and is still dominated by communist and socialist lawyers and legal organizations.
The Next Agenda Conference
Progressive LA: The Next Agenda Conference was held On October 20, 2001 in Los Angeles at the California Science Center.
The Progressive Los Angeles Network (PLAN) and the Institute for America’s Future "will co-sponsor an important conference -- the Next Agenda Conference -- designed to celebrate recent victories, build upon Los Angeles’ progressive momentum, and link local issues with a national progressive agenda. The conference will also help solidify a more strategic and integrated progressive movement in Los Angeles".
Speakers included Rev. Norman Johnson, SCLC[4]
Free Mumia Abu-Jamal
In 2008 Norman Johnson, Staff Member, Bargaining Unit Protection, TWU Local 100, New York signed a statement circulated by the Partisan Defense Committee calling for the release of convicted “cop-killer” Mumia Abu-Jamal.[5]
