Organize for Power Slate

The Organize for Power Slate from a Google Doc shared on Twitter:[1]

Comrades, my name is Nick Marrapode (he/him) and I’m excited to run for a position as an At-Large member of the Portland DSA steering committee as part of the Organize For Power slate. I’ve been a member of DSA since 2016 when I joined after volunteering with the Bernie Sanders campaign in Chicago. In 2020 I was fired from my job for attempting to organize our 125 worker facility into the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. Later that year I moved to Portland, got a job with UPS where I am now a driver and proud rank & file member of Teamsters Local 162. I’m also proud to be a member of DSA's Bread & Roses caucus, a Marxist caucus focused on labor organizing, building the political capacity of the working class, and making DSA into a mass organization capable of taking on the capitalists and winning.
In my year with Portland DSA I have been active in the labor working group, attended actions hosted by the Medicare For All campaign, and I am most proud of my role in working with many other members to turn up the heat on last summer’s BCTGM strike at NABISCO-Mondelez. As an At Large Steering Committee member I will work to support members who want to get involved in workplace struggles either through organizing where they work or getting rank-and-file jobs in strategic industries where socialists can help workers strengthen their unions, win better conditions, and realize the power that rests in the hands of all working people. I would also like to help grow our organizations’ potential for engaging in electoral organizing, both through continued ballot initiatives and by building the infrastructure necessary for our chapter to contest for power by running socialist candidates for elected office. We need to build a robust, vibrant organization capable of taking on the capitalist class in our city, I look forward to the chance to play my part in building that kind of organization.
