Standing for AD 34

In 2019 Neel Sannappa stood from AD 34 for the California Democratic Party Central Committee.

Ever since I was a child, I have followed electoral politics and knew it was something I wanted to be involved in. It wasn’t until 2008 when Obama became President that I felt that I could have the same opportunity to make change as any other person in this Country. I first volunteered in 2012 making calls with SEIU for President Obama’s re-election campaign. Then in 2016 I was inspired by Senator Sanders run for President, I set up debate watch parties, marches in downtown Bakersfield as well as organized volunteers for phone banking and canvassing events. More recently I became the Director of the Kern County Voter Engagement project; we have focused on educating high school and college students about the importance of civic engagement, helping build our base for the future. During the primaries and general election, I worked to get Democrats in Kern County elected by organizing phone banking and canvassing events for the Kern County Democratic Central Committee.

As a delegate I will continue to advocate for issues such as Medicare for all, tuition-free public education, true immigration reform, environmental justice, social justice and racial justice. As a child of immigrants and a life-long resident of Kern County, I believe I hold a unique and valuable perspective to represent our communities needs at the State party level. I would be honored to receive your vote.[1]
