KeyWiki:Project Directory
The purpose of this page is to organize KW's structure, including:
- Projects (work that needs doing on assemblages of related pages)
- Organizing templates
- Categories, subcategories and so on.
First steps
Please strike out tasks as you finish them. If you plan to do a task in the next week or so, and you want to make sure no one else duplicates your effort, puts dibs on it by placing your user name next to it in this list. (Like this: TeaParty 17:31, 24 September 2011 (UTC)).
Proposed next steps
Here are two steps that I will be working on.--Palmetto 13:24, 29 September 2011 (UTC)
- Go through the list of Uncategorized categories and Uncategorized pages to begin adding top-level categories.
- Create top-level categories, specifically relating to pages that are about political organizations.
We're also in need of lots more disambiguation pages. A good way to find where these are needed is by checking all the blue links on one of the (State Name) Elected Officials 2010 pages.
Other Talk templates needed
- Conference and events that are not state-centric
- People who are not state-centric
Category proposal
- Here are the current categories.
- Here are the categories that are not further grouped into a parent category
As a rough cut, I propose these categories:
"Publications"
- Category:Publications includes these subcategories:
"Events"
- Category:Events includes these subcategories:
"Groups and organizations"
- Category:Organizations is the main category here. Its subcategories are:
"People"
- Category:People includes these subcategories:
-
- Category:Donors This category would be meant for big-donors like Carol Kenner.
- Campaign personnel
- Candidates
- Committee members
- Editors
- Lawyers
- Journalists
- Petition signers
- Political appointees
- Professors
- If we have replace text ability, we can convert an existing category here. Already there is Category:Professor with 389 pages. Having the two overlap seems unnecessary.
"Politicians"
I propose this for politicians: -Reaganomics 21:08, 7 October 2011 (UTC)
- State politicians in [[category:(State Name) State (Representatives, Senators, etc.)]]
- These can go in the category for the appropriate state, and in the appropriate one of these categories: category:Members of lower state legislative bodies or category:Members of upper state legislative bodies.
- Those two categories, as well as category:United States Representatives and category:United States Senators, etc. can go in category:United States politicians, which can go in category:People.

Currently, it seems that a rough categorical structure is:
In short, we could categorize all elected officials based on that type of structure. Such as:
- [[Category:STATE ELECTED POST]]
Other examples would be:
- [[Category:Topeka City Council]]
- [[Category:Los Angeles City Supervisor]]
Etc...
"Updated category needed"
WikiProjects
List of
We also want projects to correspond to some of these categories, specifically, projects for:
So, we need WikiProject pages for those proposed projects, and we need WikiProject description/talk page templates for them, as in:
- KeyWiki:WikiProject Groups and Organizations with its talk page template: {{kworgs}}
- KeyWiki:WikiProject Publications with its talk page template: {{kwpubs}}
- KeyWiki:WikiProject People with its talk page template: {{kwpeople}}
- KeyWiki:WikiProject Events with its talk page template: {{kwevents}}
WikiProject templates
Finished projects
Re-categorizing
- New state legislator categories created and applied. -Reaganomics 04:14, 11 October 2011 (UTC)
Design and apply talk page templates
Design a talk page template called {{kw}} to go on the discussion tab of any page that is about KW. This template should includes links to all of KW's major "about" type pages or core content areas.--Palmetto 11:59, 29 September 2011 (UTC)- Build a model state template and then build 50 state project templates: These will go on the "discussion" tab of articles related to that state. Note that the talk page project template for all states is the zip code of the state, with the exception of Tennessee, where it is {{tenn}}.
