The New Zealand Fabian Society event "The new wave of young councillors" was convened August 9th, 2022 from 5:30 PM to 6:45 PM Location 2/57 Willis St. At the back of Unity Books.

Tamatha Paul was 22 when elected three years ago, and Teri O'Neill was 21 - both are on the Wellington City Council. Josh Trlin at Porirua City was 25. Sophie Handford at Kapiti Coast was 18 when she was elected. And more twenty-somethings may well join them after the October local body elections.

What were their expectations and what did they achieve? Was there bold action

What were the blockages they encountered? And what do they believe they can achieve in the next three years if they win their places again?

Tamatha came to the job after being the first Māori woman to be president of the students association at Victoria. Sophie had been the national coordinator of the School Strikes 4 Climate, helping to mobilise more than 170,000 people. Teri a policy and business analyst. Josh came out of a law firm.
