Law background

Jose Luis Fuentes practiced law for the Working Peoples Law Center in the Echo Park area of Los Angeles, specializing in criminal, family and community law before joining Siegel & Yee in 2003.

Since joining the firm, Mr. Fuentes has practiced in the areas of contract litigation, business, civil rights and public interest litigation. He has litigated against the California Department of Corrections, Los Angeles, Albany and San Francisco Police Departments, County of Alameda, County of Sacramento, United States Department of Justice in civil, and grand jury proceedings and is litigating an international human rights case, Bowoto v. Chevron, since he initially signed up the Nigerian clients in 1999.

Mr. Fuentes has served in a leadership capacity in community and legal organizations, including serving as past president of the National Lawyers Guild, Los Angeles Chapter; People United For A Better Oakland; Bay Area PoliceWatch; Constitutional Rights Foundation; Barrister Domestic Violence Clinic; Students for Justice in Palestine and Homies Organizing The Mission To Empower Youth. He graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, and received a JD from Loyola Marymount University.[2]
