For a Political, Prolific and Democratic DSA Editorial Board

In May 2023 Jo Smiley signed a resolution "For a Political, Prolific and Democratic DSA Editorial Board" as one of the MUG and R&R's Joint Resolutions for the 2023 DSA National Convention in August in Chicago.

DSA

After volunteering for Bernie Sanders’ 2016 campaign while living in Missouri, Jo Smiley moved home to Louisville and began searching for a group of like-minded folks eager to fight the “rising tide of white supremacy and racism in this country.” Three years later, Louisville DSA has 200 members who elect a seven-person steering committee each December. Last year, Smiley was elected co-chair, along with 27-year-old computer programmer Alec Robinson.[1]

B&R slate

In 2020 the Bread & Roses slate for Louisville Democratic Socialists of America steering committee was Jo Smiley, Alec Robertson, Mandy Bell, Nick Conder, Tyler Lamon.

Jo Smiley is a current co-chair of Louisville DSA and a rank-and-file member of AFSCME Local 3425. Jo has provided leadership on the chapter’s Labor Committee over the past year, and has been active in our electoral work as well.[2]
