Jane Brunner
Jane Brunner is a member of the Oakland City Council and represents North Oakland, District 1. She is a Senior Attorney at Oakland law firm Siegel & Yee.
Brunner specializes in employment civil litigation, arbitration, student rights and discipline. She represents numerous plaintiffs in wrongful termination and discrimination issues, as well as small businesses in the area of employment.
Ms. Brunner also has extensive experience in mediation and negotiations. She has over twenty years experience resolving and settling complex, multi-party issues in a variety of forums, ranging from private civil litigation to city and statewide agencies.
Ms. Brunner represents unions in negotiations, arbitrations and National Relations Labor Board hearings. She has handled dozens of employment arbitrations as well as court trials involving employee termination, discrimination and other issues. She has provided sexual harassment training to members of the California State Assembly and their staff and to Pacific Gas & Electric Company employees.
Currently Ms. Brunner represents SEIU Local 87, San Francisco janitors. Previously she served as staff attorney with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1245.
Ms. Brunner is active in professional and civic organizations. She routinely presents at The State Bar of California Labor and Employment Law Sections.
Ms. Brunner is a member of the Oakland City Council and Chair of the Community and Economic Development Committee. She was chair of the Affordable Housing Task force and has been successful in acquiring millions of dollars in additional funding for housing. She also was Co-Chair of the Sustainable Community Development Task Force.[1]
Education
Ms. Brunner is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley (BA) and University of California Hastings College of the Law (JD). She is a former public school special education teacher and administrator. [2]
Cuba delegation
In December 1998, newly elected Rep Barbara Lee hosted an 11 member, five day mission to Cuba. Delegates included Oakland City Council members Ignacio De La Fuente, Henry Chang and Jane Brunner, who all paid their own way. On her return Lee intended to submit a written report to President Bill Clinton and Congress on the delegations findings. [3]
Supporting Sandre Swanson
In 2006, Jane Brunner, Councilmember, Oakland , was one of many prominent Northern California leftists to serve on State Assembly hopeful Sandre Swanson's Honorary Campaign Committee.[4]
