Helene Rouvier
Standing for AD 2
In 2019 Helene Rouvier stood from AD 2 for the California Democratic Party Central Committee.
I have been Democrat all my life, as were my parents. I come from a working class family with strong ties to the labor movement. My father was an immigrant who left school in the 6th grade to work in the coal mines on Vancouver Island; then later in fisheries, as a farmworker, and finally for the Air Force as a civilian employee. I have lived in Humboldt County since 1970, raising two children as a single working mom, and am the first in my immediate family to graduate from college. My career has included management in food production and construction, professional archaeology, and cultural resource management (Tribal Historic Preservation Officer for the Wiyot and Karuk Tribes). I am currently employed as the Africa Grants and Contracts Analyst for Internews Network – an NGO supporting independent media globally.
It has been an incredible privilege to have been your elected AD-02 delegate since 2017. I currently serve on the Rules Committee and chair the Rural Caucus Cannabis Committee. We have made significant strides, including bylaws amendment to the endorsement process and more effective and robust Party action regarding legislation. The RC Cannabis Committee has submitted a “Resolution in Support of Small Cannabis Operations” for consideration at the Spring 2019 Convention.
I am convinced that the best hope for moving our nation forward will come from within our existing political structure; I also recognize that the California Democratic Party needs to take a hard look at itself and make significant changes. We must take the Party back to its working class roots, fix the toxic internal work environment, and embrace progressive issues that benefit all people and the planet.[1]
