Our organization is no longer the single-organizer youth civic engagement project it was in 2016 and as we enter our 9th fellowship program we are proud to introduce Ana Valentina Guevara as the new co-director of the Florida Student Power Network!
Ana Guevara was born in Nicaragua and lived as an undocumented immigrant in Florida for almost a decade. After witnessing the struggles her parents faced she got involved in student activism as she advocated for in-state tuition for undocumented youth, led Know Your Rights trainings and mobilized young people to lobby for immigrant rights at the State Legislature. In 2017, she graduated from the University of Florida and joined Florida Student Power Network as a fellow and has continued to support the youth movement ever since.
She will be working in alignment with co-director David Caicedo to ensure that youth voices are present and engaged in Florida’s current political climate.
David's worldview is shaped by his upbringing in Brownsville, Brooklyn whose motto is "never did, never will;" and having experienced the immigrant struggle for citizenship first hand as the first U.S. born child of Colombian immigrants, who despite working full-time union jobs, still lived in poverty. He has over eight years of campaign and mobilization experience and his goal is to reshape political discourse through escalated youth engagement in electoral and movement politics.
