Background

As a teacher and minister, David Dault has touched many lives over the last fifteen years. David got his start as a volunteer youth pastor in college. In the late 1990′s he was hired to lead the High School Ministries program at Columbia Presbyterian Church in Decatur, Georgia, and from 2003 to 2008 he served as pastor for Central Presbyterian Church, a small rural parish south of Nashville, Tennessee. He moved to Memphis with his family in 2009 to join the Religious Studies faculty at a small liberal arts college.

David sees his work as a Spiritual Director as a continuation of his pastoral vocation. “In the classroom, I work with students to train them to think about religion,” David says, “but that kind of interaction is not the same as being part of someone’s journey as they try to live and explore their faith. That’s what I miss most about ministry, and Spiritual Direction is my way of staying in contact with that journey.”

Coming from a diverse background of faith himself, David is an effective mentor to those who identify with both Protestant and Catholic Christian traditions. His style draws from the listening practices of the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) as well as the mystic and doctrinal writings of the early Church. In the past he has served as a prayerful guide to those discerning a call to ministry, those who find themselves in turmoil and crises of faith, and to those exploring the spiritual life with little or no faith background.

Trained as a theologian, David holds a doctorate in Religion from Vanderbilt University, as well as a masters degree in Religion from Vanderbilt and another masters degree in theological studies from Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta, Georgia. He is a member of Spiritual Directors International, and abides by their Code of Ethical Conduct. [1]
