Chelsea Clinton
Chelsea Clinton (born February 27, 1980) is the daughter of President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton.
Early Life
Clinton was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. Clinton excelled in academics. A family friend described her as a precocious child. While in elementary school, Clinton skipped the third grade. Her parents encouraged her academic excellence, with her father keeping a miniature desk for his daughter in the governor's office when he was Governor of Arkansas. In Little Rock, Clinton attended Forest Park Elementary School, Booker Arts and Science Magnet Elementary School and Horace Mann Junior High School. Throughout her childhood, Clinton enjoyed volleyball, cards, ping pong and movies. She became a vegetarian.[1]
Education
Clinton did her undergraduate studies at Stanford University in Palo Alto, California. In 2001, she graduated from Stanford; her undergraduate thesis topic was the 1998 Belfast Agreement in Northern Ireland. She went on to earn a master's degree in international relations at University College at the University of Oxford in Oxford, United Kingdom. As at December 2009, Clinton was studying health policy and management at Columbia University's Mailman School of Public Health.[1]
Steyer connection
Jim Steyer known Hillary Clinton for more than three decades — since she worked for the Children's Defense Fund — and he hired Chelsea Clinton to be a teaching assistant when she was a student at Stanford University, where he has taught for more than 25 years.[2]
Campaigning for her Mother
In Dec. 2007, Chelsea Clinton began campaigning for her mother's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination in Iowa. By early April 2008, she had spoken at 100 college campuses on behalf of her mother's candidacy. Until this time she had refrained from making any public statements regarding her parents' policies. She has maintained a blanket refusal to speak to any media personnel.[1]
Engagement to Marc Mezvinsky
Clinton met Mezvinsky when both were teenagers in Washington, according to reports. They also both attended Stanford University in California. The couple announced in Jan. 2009 that they were looking at a possible wedding in Summer, 2010.
Mezvinsky is a son of former Pennsylvania Rep. Marjorie Margolies-Mezvinsky and former Iowa Rep. Ed Mezvinsky, longtime friends of the Clintons. Ed Mezvinsky was released from federal prison last year after serving a nearly five-year sentence for wire and bank fraud. Margolies-Mezvinsky served just one term in Congress before losing her seat in 1994 after voting in favor of President Clinton's 1993 budget, which was controversial at the time.[3]
Of Mezvinsky, father Bill Clinton commented, "He's great. He's a great human being."[4]
EMILY's List
On December 10, 2009, the Planned Parenthood New York City Action Fund stated that Chelsea Clinton addressed an EMILY's List luncheon and provided photo (right).[5]
