Organize for Power Slate
The Organize for Power Slate from a Google Doc shared on Twitter:[3]
- Greetings Comrades! My name is Arrison J. Warner and I use he/him pronouns. I am a life-long Portlander and I am a rank and file member of AFSCME Local 328 as an Office Specialist at OHSU’s Center for Women’s Health. I have been organizing with Portland DSA since 2020. I am active in the Medicare For All Campaign, the Labor Working Group and the Electoral Working Groups. I am also a member of the Bread and Roses caucus.
- I am running for Secretary on the Steering Committee to support the movement-building work our chapter is already doing and build up the work we haven’t begun to do. My careers over the last half-decade have been in the Medical/Insurance worlds where I have spent much of my time doing the administrative-intensive work of summarizing medical records and even audio calls, which lends itself to the work of Secretary. Over my time in our chapter, I first became active during our excellent UPNOW campaign, and I cut my teeth text-banking for DSA 100k and phone-banking for the PRO ACT. I became one of the core organizers for our Medicare For All March and Rally last summer. Throughout my time in the chapter I have noticed something key: the chapter is at it’s best when we are working on mass movement campaigns, such as our strike solidarity with Nabisco/BCTGM, Kaiser/OHNP, Fred Meyer/UFCW and City Workers/DCTU; the ERA campaign, and EWG’s Field Team, just to name a few. I want our chapter to continue building on these projects to build a foundation on which to effectively respond to whatever 2022 throws our way.
- I believe that DSA is an organization that can and will organize the multi-racial working class of this country and I believe that Portland DSA is a leader on many fronts in our National Organization. I know we are not there yet, but I know we will, and how we get there is building a chapter that focuses on our external projects, a chapter that promotes a culture of debate and dissent in a comradely way. A chapter that works because “every member is an organizer”, to steal a phrase from my union. Solidarity forever and I will leave you with this. My go to Karaoke songs are “Common People” by Pulp and “Life During Wartime” by Talking Heads.
